And the House Turned Into a Giant Hairball!

When one has two furry girls running around the house...

you absolutely MUST have one of these, and use it often!

And so, after 4 days of no electric power, it's fairly obvious that the first thing I did was vacuum, vacuum and vacuum some more!

When I lived in an Ohio town, the most we might be without electric was a few hours? And so now I've had my first experience with electricity from the rural co-op. When the electric goes out, it can be DAYS until you have power again. Whew, what a rude awakening for this city gal! Thank goodness the hubby had a small generator to keep our food cold, and allow this blog junkie some time on her computer.

The electric was restored late Tuesday, time enough for me to do a few loads of laundry. Yesterday was spent cleaning this hairy house, I kid you not. I had to change the vacuum bag there was so much dog fur. Blech! What was this hair-phobic gal thinking when she got two long-haired dogs??!!

Here's a photo of my buddy before I got the hairy gals; you'll note he was a short-haired dalmatian. I do believe I'll return to a short-haired model in the future...

  3. After the few multi-day power outages that I have lived through--first on my list when the electricity was restored was a hot shower. Glad you all are warm again.

We have been keeping a relative's dog (while the owner recovers from surgery) for 6 weeks now and our house has accumulated so much hair--I can't imagine have a pack of doggies.

  4. OH....what beautiful girls! It's amazing how time without our usual luxuries make us thankful for what we have. I hope the month goes by fast and hubs his home before you know it. Spring is just around the corner.....I can feel it.

  5. Congrats on getting the power back! We once lost power for several days during a winter storm. I had parakeets at the time, and was worried that they would die from the cold. I ended up heating my kitchen be boiling big pots of water on my gas stove. It worked!
Your dogs are beautiful, dalmation included!

  8. Oh you got to love all that hair..it is funny how much they can shed and still not be bald! It is that time of year..your Dalmation was very pretty! Glad you got the electricity back on, we are fortunate here..six hours has been the max amount of time we have been without electricity..and yes we have a generator too. Up here we have to worry about freezing to death..as for food..well just stick it in the snowbank! Country life..ain't it fun! :)

  10. What beautiful dogs! After that delightful Dalmation, I can see what you wanted another dog (more). I for one must have a dog, and a cat or two of each, and I really enjoy my chickens, not to mention the cows. Oh! I guess I just love animals.

  12. Gorgeous Gals you have there! I have a cat and have to drag out the sweeper often.
We aren't on the rural co-op but we have been known to be without electricity for a couple of days. Makes me appreciate being able to flip a switch and have lights. We will survive this!

  16. Your pups are cute but I live in a shoebox, so those big pets are OUT.
However, my house has rambling cat furballs blowing across the plains.
    Drives me kooky!
