Don't forget to enter my
Summertime Giveaway...
there's still 2 days left to enter.
Giveaway deadline is this Friday,
June 12th, at midnight.
Hubby just left for work 30 minutes ago... and texted me when he was 3 miles away to tell me there were storm chasers at the local gas station. Hmmm. Yay. That tells me that they have high hopes for the band of storms headed our way. It's beginning to darken to the southwest; I estimate the storms will arrive by 3:00 p.m., only 45 minutes away.
It may be a good idea to clear the shoes out of our
bedroom closet in case me and the girls need to
dash into it for safety...

Before I shut the computer down for fear of lightning obliterating my iMac, I will regale you with some pics of yesterday afternoon's storms...
These little tips coming out of the clouds were rotating. I kid you not. But they never developed into anything significant. Oh, and the clouds were NOT that blue yesterday... I forgot to change my camera lighting from incandescent to CLOUDY. Duh.
The thing I love about storms out here on the plains - you can SEE them coming. There aren't any buildings to block your view - you can see how far away they are, and which direction they are coming from, so you know if you are threatened or not. Many times I have watched a storm pass just to the south of us. It's amazingly beautiful!
Today's storms are almost upon us. So far, we only have a flash flood watch, but weather warnings out here are always subject to change.
On that note, I'll power down my computer to spare it any possible damage from lightning. Yes, I have a very good Belkin power strip with surge protection... BUT my computer was fried once by lightning, even with a good power strip! Why take the chance?!
Update: Storms were lame today; there were not even any cool cloud formations like yesterday. But there will be more photo opps in the next few days since we have ongoing storms forecast.
Cool shots. That's some whopper of a storm. Guess maybe I'll go check Twitter to see if you're tweeting from your closet! :)
ReplyDeleteGrab Toto and head for the basement quick!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never considered that in certain places, you can't see the storms coming. Maybe that's why I feel claustrophobic after I've been in the mountains for a while.
ReplyDeleteLove it, grab the shoes! Hope it missed you by a mile!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you!
Clean out a space in the closet! Hang on to the girls tight when you hear the roar coming. I use to always have a place to go to. Make sure you have the heavy bottom shoes in there with you should that time come. You stay safe and take pictures as long as you and the girls have time to be safe and settled cause is happens faster that not.
ReplyDeleteBeing from Texas makes one a bit over cautious of them wirley clouds!

Wow, I love the pictures! I will not show them to my husband, though, or he'll decide we need to be your neighbors...
ReplyDeleteHope you stayed safe
ReplyDeleteThey hit here this morning about 11. The wind blew dead limbs out of the trees and trash all over the yard and we got a really good rain. No tornados though - thank goodness. I love being able to see them coming so I have time to clean out my bathroom closet or go to my Dad's for safety. No mountains for me....not during a storm anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are cool and storm chasers would be cool except for the fact that you have to live where there are TORNADOES!
ReplyDeleteAlthough, y'know what? I live in Eastern Washington state, and we have had 4 tornadoes in the past year in our area! What the...?!?
Stay safe (although, the pix are cool!
Love the shots you managed to get.. and thank goodness the storms passed you by...
ReplyDeleteBe safe, raining in Ohio today Just really gray overcast and rainy.. no photo shots.. Have a great day
ReplyDeleteOG: Glad you were able to post before the storm, what great photos.
ReplyDeleteLove the music on the player.
Love the sky photos. In this case, I know you were glad there were no "cool" cloud formations, messagners of bad storms.
ReplyDeleteAt least it was a good excuse to clean you closet.
I grew up where we could see the storms moving in.. I kinda miss that. Now we have so many trees, you don't know about it until it is here! Your prairie is beautiful..bad clouds and all, you should get some great photos!! :)
ReplyDeleteCurrently under a tornado watch ourselves. Been so hot and muggy, seems something needs to break. Storms last night just north of us. Always exciting. Great pictures. Wish I had a basement.
ReplyDeleteI love a good storm (when I don't have to go out in it) and agree that they are beautiful. Great pics!
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos! But please stay safe. I hope the storms bypass you and your animals.
ReplyDeleteTake Care!

A hydrant awaits you this Friday. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that about Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas--beautiful but certainly dangerous those spring and summer storms.
ReplyDeleteHi, nice to meet you. I'm here to congratulate you on your Golden Hydrant award. I am a follower of Life with Dogs and see that you are a worthy recipient of this coveted award. ;0=)
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures of the storms. Do you ever get used to the threat of them? I'm a PA person and we get some but nothing like what you get in Kansas.
Nice blogging!
Congrats again!

Hi, I too came over from Life With Dogs to congratulate you on the award! But we have already met. Although I haven't visited your blog (shame on me!) for some time. Sorry ;-) Hope the storms will keep passing your house, so you can take those wonderful photos without having to use the escape-shoe-space.
