Blog Interrupted

Life for Oz Girl has come to a screeching standstill. Woe is me. I am so lost without my iMac computer.

Yes, the hard drive finally bit the dust on Sunday... it has been trying to die on me since October. Never fear, I have documented every maddening episode since then, talked to the nice folks at Apple tonight, and will be taking the whole kit and kaboodle to an authorized Apple reseller/repair shop in Wichita sometime this week. Most likely not tomorrow since "the big storm" is hitting tonight.

So, for now, all I have is my Acer Aspire One netbook. If any of you are at all familiar with netbooks, you will know that they are NOT conducive to heavy computer usage. At best, I can read emails and do easy posts to my blogs. At worst, visiting other blogs is a nightmare -- the screen on this thing is teeny weeny, and I have to scroll up and down and sideways to read and view photos. What should take 5 minutes takes 15-20 min. Plus, certain features seem to be non-existent, e.g., no font choices here in Blogger. Grrr.

I had just started visiting blogs on Sunday when my iMac crashed on me - in fact, Lisa of Laughing Orca Ranch has the dubious honor of being the blog I had just visited when it crashed! Sorry Lisa ~ my whiney iMac didn't give me enough time to post any comments on your blog! Tony Letts and Midlife Slices were the only two blogs I got to read and comment on before the ole iMac bit the dust.

So, even though I am having difficulty with the virtue called patience right now, I ask of you to have patience as my posts will be sparse until I get my beloved iMac back. I'm hoping I get it back before the weekend, although that might be just a tad too optimistic!

In other news... my 2007 Dodge Caliber is in the shop, and my barely 6 month old cell phone died on Friday.

Anyone want to loan me their car or computer or cell phone?

  4. As the saying goes here in England - 'it never rains it pours' i.e. when it goes wrong, it all goes at the same time.

I have an Acer One laptop so I feel your pain though I can't complain too much; it'll be my only lifeline to you all when I go travelling :)

  10. Oh I forgive ya! I just know how you feel though. That sickening feeling of not being able to connect with the world due to a computer malfunction. Your chest begins to feel like an elephant is sitting on it and your heart races and you feel like you're going to be ill.

Yep. Been there, and it's not pleasant.
I hope it doesn't last long for you, though.

I hope the storm we've had here won't be too rough for you guys either. It's on it's way now. Make sure you have plenty of cocoa on hand :)

  11. Wow, Susan, what a string of bad luck! The electronic goodies are great when they're working, but when they die, what a pain! My old laptop died over a year ago and I lost lots of photos. It would've cost $800 to fix it, so I opted for a new one. I was thinking a netbook might be nice to have, but now you've changed my mind!
Big storm due here tonight and tomorrow, too. May end up taking a day off!
    Hope everything gets fixed soon!

  13. I would say it is time to go out an buy a lottery ticket, because when your luck changes it is going to be big.

BTW, I just got the calendar in the mail today. Wow, that is even more lovely than the blog post showed it to be. You are a amazing photographer, and I love the sunflowers. Can't wait to hang it up in my kitchen where I can see it everyday. Thanks again, I am so glad to be a winner. I will make sure to let you know when I do a post on it. Hopefully you will have your computer back soon.

  20. I also have a "sick" computer and I am using my Loving Husbands which is not the same as mine. It is bigger and I keep having typo's! I also can't down load any pictures...well I could but then I would not have them on my computer. Good luck getting everything fixed!

  21. Mine's trying to die, too, and I'm afraid if I turn it off, I'll never be able to resurrect it in the morning.

So sorry you're having everything go kaput at once. That's the pits! (If you lived closer, I'd loan you my car. :)
