I am quite accustomed to fields of winter wheat here in Kansas. I love the bright green this time of year - it adds such a bright splash of color to our otherwise brown, pre-winter landscape.
But I was very surprised to see several fields of cotton spring up around where we live this year. They look like blanketed fields of snow, without the cold of course.
Well, let me correct myself - today the cold started... 41 degrees for our high, with wind chills in the high 20s. Can you say BRRR??
Afterthought: Post a comment on my Lazy G Ranch blog and be entered to win a sample pack of dog treats!! Oh, I know, y'all are saying, OMG, there she goes again about her silly Lazy G blog.... I can't help myself, I'm just so durned excited by it all! :-)
I could go for the white cotton fields without the cold white snow fields. It is no wonder that so many young people wanting to start a professional life look at average temperatures before selecting a city to begin.
ReplyDeleteI remember the first times I saw the fields of cotton on my way to Harper. I didn't have a clue what it was. I had NEVER seen a field of cotton before that.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots - I love the fluffy cotton fields.
ReplyDeleteI drove by a field of white while driving down a rural highway when we first moved here to Georgia, a couple of hours out of Atlanta toward Augusta, and had no clue what it was. Turned around, got out of my car...it was cotton! One of only a few remaining ones in our immediate area. It was fascinating to look at, and my mind immediately went to all the generations whose life evolved around it, the families who went out day after day to pick it. Ouch! Those thingies are sharp!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos...and you can mention the Lazy G blog as often as you want!
The cotton field was awsome!!! I read somewhere that even though cotton is bad for the ground to plant over and over that it is good to rotate in form time to time!
ReplyDeleteI love to see fields of cotton!
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in south Georgia I loved to driving in the flat countryside and seeing the cotton fields stretch for miles. I miss that.
ReplyDeleteI think the Lazy G will be an absolute hit :)
