I have an old whitewashed spice cabinet that
we'll be hanging above the stove. The door will
look much nicer when it's painted and the trim is hung.

I've painted the entire back porch and the other side of the back door. The reason I haven't painted this side of the back door is that Tori insists on jumping up on it - if you enlarge the photo, you can see how damaged the wood is right below the window. Obviously if I paint it, she's just going to scrape the new paint right off! The only stopgap measure I can think of would be to put a piece of plexiglass over the new paint, only right below the window.
Any other suggestions, aside from the impossible ~

The carpet was downright disgusting... the only good thing??
I could let the dogs in with wet feet and not worry!!

Ew... carpet - in a kitchen? Much better with the wooden floor I see you have put in instead.
ReplyDeleteAmazing difference! I can't help with the dog, I have the same problem and have not found a solution.
ReplyDeleteI just love your new kitchen. Now, on the door issue, my parents did exactly that with their problem door. Plexiglass screwed onto the problem side. Works perfect! Their problem was the house kitties who sometimes hang out in the basement. When kitty wanted back in, he/she was clawing the door.
ReplyDeleteok, you've inspired me to at least CLEAN my kitchen today! Yours looks so fresh and neat. Love it! -Tammy
WOW!!! BEAUTIFUL....real nice job! Can't wait to see the cabinet up and the door painted. You could use plexi glass or I was thinking a brass plate like you can use at the bottom of a door. I just like brass....training the dog not to jump, sometimes easier said than done. I have 4 brats in the house and need to stop the tearing out the door and barking their heads off....GRRRRRRR!!! Dogs and bad habits, one gets it started then they all follow suit! I love 'em but boy, can they make you pull out your hair!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteAmazing make-over. The after pics look great.
ReplyDeleteI've moved into several houses with kitchen carpet, and I can only wonder what the former owners were thinking.
Your kitchen looks really nice and bright now. Don't you just love to make a wonderful change! The only thing you can do to the door is put up a piece of plex and you will have to change it out after it gets all scratched up later on down the road.
ReplyDeleteThat is truly an amazing transformation! I LOVE your new kitchen!!!! I'm with you on the carpet in the kitchen. I just can not imagine. It. Seems. So. Wrong.
ReplyDeleteAs for the jumping on the door, well, I would do what you are thinking of doing. Live with a jumping dog and figure out a way to make it ok for him/her to jump. It's just so much easier that way ;-)
Can I borrow some of your energy??? Looks great
ReplyDeleteWOW. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lot of work but so worth it once you are done. It looks just beautiful.
We rented a house once that had carpet in the kitchen and I sure didn't understand it. That is the worst place to have carpet I would think. Love your new floor and the colors you painted and the cabinets just look great!!
Still loving it! What about hanging something on the door under the window? Something decorative but sturdy enough to deter the pup from jumping up? Just a thought.

Thanks for letting me know about the Hoosier! I have wanted one of those forever....if yours ever needs a new home... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kitchen tour. Now, I know where we will have coffee and chat when I visit!
xo, misha
Your changes are looking so good! I love your dog!
ReplyDeleteEverything loos great!
ReplyDeleteJust swinging by to say hello :-)
Wonderful improvement. No suggestions for the springy dog--it is funny how pets make us rearrange our lives.
ReplyDeleteSo fresh and clean looking, I bet you go in there an just inhale!!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks great! I can only think of some sort of tether for Tori which allows a degree of roaming in the kitchen without quite reaching the door.
