Freedom Blog Post Update

It's a dreadful thing, but the fact is that there is
too much injustice in the world for us to handle.

~ Tony Letts, Mind Motion

I think Tony really nailed it with his comment on my previous post. It's why I always feel overwhelmed when I receive charity solicitations in the mail and in my email, and see them advertised on TV. WHO do we support? There truly is too much injustice in the world - even Bill Gates with all his money cannot help everyone, although he and his wife sure make a gallant effort, don't they?

I received my Soulgems necklace yesterday, and let me tell you, it is truly beautiful. I already wore it to a bonfire last night. I love it!

The winner of Three Cups of Tea is .... Brit Gal Sarah! I used Randomizer.org and it came up with #3 (there were 2 comments made by the same person, which will count as one for the purpose of the drawing). Sarah, email your address to me and I will get the book out to you next week. (suzgarten@yahoo.com)

As we head into 2010, I want to thank everyone who has followed my blog and commented. I have met some truly wonderful and fantastic people here, and on Twitter and Facebook too. I am most thankful for these new friendships and wish the best for everyone in our upcoming year!

  2. Don't know how I missed the last post...what a heartfelt rendering on some of our world atrocities. And yes, you're right, we can't help everyone, no matter how much money we throw(lend) to the causes. But it does make us individually feel a little better, don't you think, to at least think we're helping? I send money each month to the Humane Society and the World Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, knowing full well that my $15 doesn't even buy a bag dog food!

Anyway, I'm so glad to have met you this last year, and look forward to not only your view of our world at large, but of your life there on the ranch. A most hearty wish for you to have a happy and healthy new year.

  16. Hi Susan,

I'm just poking around today and have arrived here on your doorstep.

Several years ago, I came to the same conclusion regarding charitable donations. There are so many, many truly worthy causes out there, I couldn't possibly contribute to all those that approached me for funds or I would become a charitable case myself in short order.

So, I made a conscious decision to donate only to Animal Causes. Those are what are most dear to my heart and where I feel my help is most needed.

  17. Don't get discouraged. Just do what you can in your own way and support those charities that really do give the money where they say and don't withhold it for expenses and salaries. Focus on the positive and don't let it all overwhelm you. If we all did something, lots would change.

Anyway, I really dropped by to say I got my Grit magazine today and in it there is a photo by Susan Garten. I said to Mountain Man, hey, I know someone famous now. Congratulations! Loved the photo.
