I must say I definitely felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz today ... first as the jet circled over the flat but beautiful-to-me Kansas plains, and then again as I drove down our gravel lane with my car windows down, a gentle afternoon breeze blowing across the prairie grass.
It's always nice to go home and visit family, but these days, it's even better to come back home to the quiet of the countryscape around me... and the momentary pandemonium of 3 dogs who are ecstatic to see me!
That's a very fitting title for the Oz Girl! I know exactly what your talking about. I like to getting away but I like coming home even better. Hope all was well with your grandmother when you headed home.
ReplyDeleteThere's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place...

ReplyDeleteI'd love to get lost out there with my dogs for a couple of days. Solitude is heaven in our modern world...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your home safe & sound. That was one way to avoid the motels & bugs, though I'm sure it was a hard trip to make.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home, Susan! I love coming home, too. But, then I really hate to leave :(
ReplyDeleteLike a dog with my head hanging out the window, I start to whine the closer I get to the farm. Because it smells like home!
How is your Grandmother doing?

It is true that there's no place like home. I always think I want to go somewhere else but then I'm done with it about 2 or 3 days later. :)

ReplyDeleteNo place like home, but prayers for your grandma
ReplyDeleteAs much as I miss the amenities that city life offers, there's a great deal to be said for the silence the country life offers us.
ReplyDeleteOh, and laying your head on your own pillow at night is pretty darn nice too!
Wishing your grandmother well.
