Invasion of the Cucumbers

We left extra room between the rows for the cucumbers (see July 1 photo below).  Seems it's still not enough room for them... they are invading the beans!!!  Next year, they will get their very own mounds away from the other garden veggies.  Hubby said he saw a cuke today, so it won't be long before we'll be canning dill and sweet pickles!

Tonight's storm clouds in the east are being backlit by the setting sun.  Here's a close-up of that cloud... click on the photo to see how interesting this cloud really looks!

That's all for now.... worked a full day and one hour of OT.... I'm bushed!!

G'nite all!

  1. Cucumbers do multiply like crazy. Oh, but the wonderful pickles you can make from them.

  2. I want to be that kind of person making my own pickles, but I was never around anyone who did any canning or preserving and it is so daunting to me.

  3. Home grown veggies are the best.

    I love those cloud pictures.

  4. Hmmm, sweet pickles! And you're right, the cukes need their own space, just like zucchini and watermelon, and I always find it so wierd that you can look at them one day and they're within bounds, and the very next day you go out and they've grown six feet! How do they do that?
Love back-lit clouds, and this one's a beauty.

  6. I expanded the size of my garden this year and the zucchini is taking over the eggplant and the tomatoes are overcoming the peppers.

I think you will be making pickles!

  9. Beautiful pictures, as always. We are in a drought, and even so, I've put up 21 quarts of pickles so far this year. Amazing. Your cucumber plants look so happy!

  12. Ours too!! Unfortunately my dill is being occupied and eaten by Monarch caterpillars, so I will have to go out and buy the dill for the pickles. I even have cukes growing up into some small trees! It's so fun though!

  13. OK, I would love to be overrun with cukes. They just don't get enough hot nights here, the ocean breeze keeps cooling them down. Now if only it could cool us down...

  14. Did you say cucumbers? I harvested my first eight cukes yesterday. I just slice them off in chunks and start eating. They are so fresh and juicy. That's what I'm talking about. I've found that cucumbers are the bully of the raised bed gardening. Anything that those little tendrils can latch onto, they will try to smother and choke. My cucumber vines are head high and climbing for the sky with tons of blooms. This year must be the perfect weather for cucumbers.

  15. Hi! It's your very bad blogging friend popping in to say hello! Looks like things have been wonderful in your world :-)

Very busy times here, hoping to be back to my old blogging habits sooner or later *hugs*

  16. Look at that garden go. I did not realize those cucumber plants are so aggressive--I'll have to remember that as we experiment with our garden.

  17. Your cucumbers look florishing indeed. My broccoli have been eaten by snails (why do we have the smart snails who ignore the pellets?), my potatoes look terribly sad, the beans are making an effort and the carrots and spring onions are doing great. The beetroot too. Now I have to think of something nice to do with them.
I do like my vegetable plot. It's so nice to be able to eat from your own garden (is what the snails are thinking too *sigh*).
Great shots of the clouds. Beautiful. Hope the storm wasn't too bad.
