Blizzard, Kansas Style ~ 2011

I took a snow day today.  A rare day spent enjoying the cozy comforts of home, catching up on everything that seems neglected for the last two months.

I tried to get some outdoor photos, but need I stress how cold a wind chill of 14 below is??!!  Even bundled up with insulating underclothes and double gloves, I just couldn't take it for long.

Paint horse gave me his opinion of our "blizzard" ... or perhaps he was expressing his dislike of the photo session??

The girls love to play when it's cold and snowy...

...funny how stop-action photos make them look so ferocious!

Tori poses while Trixie feints to the right

The sun was beginning to slide down in the western sky... or should I say "haze", as the sun itself was virtually non-existent today?

snow drifts are everywhere...  the wind blows incessantly

Here's a short video clip of Trixie and Tori playing outside... short, because I was freezing!!! You can hear the wind blowing, and trust me, it freezes right to your bones in seconds.  Especially when you walk out onto the front porch in your slippers and no coat.  *grin*

Ringo makes two very brief cameo appearances....

  1. I understand about the outdoor photos and it's not even that cold here! I do remember the wind whipping across the prairies when I would walk to class up at the University of Illinois in Champaign - that was brutal.

I had to laugh at Ringo running out and running back in...smart dog!

  2. I love the photo at sundown.
    :)

I went to college in W. Lafayette, Indiana. We had some winters there with double digit subzero temps and THEN the arctic wind. You are not kidding about how raw that weather can be. Somehow, I think it's ultimately really good for you.
    :)

I'm sure you're keeping warm with a cozy afghan, a big pot of soup...or some steamy hot chocolate!

  4. I am ready to have the snow gone about now! This blizzard we had today was something to see. I could not believe the white out we had today, a very rare thing here in NE Oklahoma! Stay warm

  9. Hi Oz Girl, good to see you. We got our dose of this weather too. It's 11 degrees right now and we have been snowed/iced in since yesterday morning. Doesn't look like we will get out today either. You're dogs don't seem bothered by it at all. I can barely get Gus to go out to do his business.

  14. The cold is incredible as is the snow drifts! It's supposed to be around -5 tonight. According to our weather guy it will be the first time in 15 years that we've had actual temps below zero. Stay safe and stay warm!

  15. Oh man, how cute are your animals!! xD

I loved the video-We unleashed my dog into the mounds of snow we got here in IL and he did the same butt-in-the-air thing as your dogs. Lol

I wish I could have got a video like you did!

    Stay warm :)

  20. Happy dogs lift one's spirits! Dodger certainly loves the snow and wants to go out often. I'm afraid we keep the house too warm for him sometimes.

Yes, it has been cold here too. I am looking forward to Spring as I never have before.

  21. Hi Susan!
Looks like you got hit good by the last storm...it's snowing here right now but we don't have much wind thank goodness. Love the picture of your horse with his tongue out and the video. Beautiful picture of the sun through the 'haze' too. Hope you get another day off soon. Keep warm! ...and stay safe.

What a difference a week makes. Last week the temp was -11 today it hit 74. Missouri is noted for weather changes at the blink of an eye.
